Kudos to Oprah ... "you were not a bully before that?"
Armstrong says he became a bully after cancer. Winfrey says he doped before cancer. "Yep," he answers.
Wow. "I knew I was going to win."
"This is the second time in my life I can't control the outcome. The first time was the disease."
That's an effective statement. Makes him human, and feels honest.
Armstrong viewed doping as necessary the way water in bottles and air in tires were.
Air, water, EPO ... cycling's basic food groups
Lance on having to use dope: "that's like saying we have to have air in our tires, or we have to have water in pur bottles. That was, in my view, part of the job.”
This may just be the most intense 30 minutes of my cycling journalism career.
Hoody, like the government's nutrition pyramid.
Hoody. What would you say are journalism's basic food groups?
Say what you will, the interview hasn't been an Oprah puff piece.
No one happy in Tour Down Under that all this is unfolding on the weekend before their race ...
Caffeine, beer and pizza ...
I suppose American organizers can relate.
Dom Blanche, Leffe, and rose.
Ferrari's name just came up.
"There are people in this story that are not monsters, and they're not toxic and they're not evil."
Armstrong views Ferrari as a good man.
"I view Dr. Ferrari as a good man. Still do."
LA not throwing Ferrari under the bus; what will he say about UCI?
That was a risky comment. Lance can't rehabilitate himself and the good doctor.
Did Lance just swallow his own tongue when they went to the tape?
Winfrey now showing Armstrong deposition tape from SCA Promotions arbitration.
Does anyone have more than those three pictures of Ferrari?
I've searched and search our photo suppliers, Ryan.
Armstrong essentially admitting that he perjured himself in SCA testimony about Ferrari.
Armstrong was just not-so-subtly called out on perjury.
Armstrong just admitted to having lied under oath during that deposition.
I think he has been coached not to name names.
If anyone is gaining credibility tonight, it's Oprah Winfrey.
So. It seems like we may not see LA flip as reported on UCI, Weisel, etc. “I’m not comfortable talking about other people… it’s all out there.”
LA: "'Reckless' would be a good way to describe that period of my life."
Reckless, or just feeling untouchable?
By not naming names, Armstrong keeps his cards to play with WADA, USADA. They are big cards.
"I am flawed, deeply flawed."
